Wife: Lise

Children:
Stian (Née May 1987)
Thomas (Née February 1989 – died August 2015)
Andreas (Née December 1993)

We live in Oslo and moved from a villa in 2017 into a flat more central in the town. We also own a summer resort by the coast and one in the mountains where we spend a lot time, both weekends and holidays.

One of our sons, Thomas, died some years ago (aged 26) from a sudden brain stroke during a training exercise. This has of course been a serious blow to our family, but together we have been able to cope with this as best we can. We will and shall never forget, but we have been able to move on with life. This has not been least thanks to three lovely grandchildren, two girls (Marie and Sigrid) and one boy (Thomas). There are also two “four legged” ones, Freya (Irish red and white setter) and Maya (Red Irish setter). During stays in our resorts, this family gives us joy and happiness despite our loss. In summer we do a lot of boating and fishing (crabs are a favourite) and in winter, needless to say, there is a lot of skiing. We are hunting in the autumn with the two dogs (game birds) and do also Moose/Elk hunting.

Business activities
Lise quit her job as an attorney sometime after the death of Thomas, while I am still working.

After IMD I worked for some years in consulting, and also teamed up with two guys for McKinsey to develop a new piping industry based on composites (we teamed up with a US company on this). Later on I worked for major Norwegian and Swedish companies with consulting on strategic issues. In 2004 I was appointed Executive Director of a technical consulting company (Rambøll) with offices in many parts of the world. My job was acquisitions and mergers and business development here in Norway and places like Poland, Russia and India. After Ramboll I worked three years as an attorney with one of Norway´s leading law firms. My very last career move took unexpectedly place just four years ago and I am now in charge of building up a new national centre for mediation dispute services.

Reflections and memories of IMI

IMD was one of the absolute best experiences both personal and professional. I feel I may not have been so good in following a “straight” and traditional MBA career path(whatever that is), but undoubtedly the IMD background was decisive for job missions like building up and acquiring businesses in places like Russia, Poland and India. The combination of being both an attorney and an MBA has served me well in many situations and developing the mediation centre could not have been accomplished without a combined professional understanding. Most of all, the experience to work with people in an international setting and value the contribution from others have been some of the great take-aways from IMD.
